Individual Psychotherapy

During your first appointment, we will discuss informed consent for treatment and outline some preliminary goals for therapy.  These goals can, and likely will, change over time, but it gives us a starting point. We will also discuss your background and life history. Although CBT does not focus heavily on childhood events, it is important to understand the types of early experiences that have shaped who you are today.

We will continue in additional sessions to work together toward your goals. In addition to talking during the sessions, you may have some “homework” in the form of reading, or keeping a log or journal of your thoughts and feelings.

We will periodically review our work together to make sure we are staying on the right track.  It is important to think of therapy as a collaboration, which requires effort on both sides.  Please feel free to ask any questions about the therapy process via email or phone when setting up your appointment.
